Mine Ethereum Classic — Top 3 miners by profitability

Most profitable ETC miners right now, ranked by daily profit at default electricity cost.

About the asset

About Ethereum Classic

Ethereum Classic is what's left of the original Ethereum chain. After a 2016 hack drained funds from a smart contract called The DAO, the Ethereum community split: most chose to fork and reverse the hack (becoming today's Ethereum), while a minority refused on principle and stayed on the original chain. That chain is Ethereum Classic, and the principle is summed up by ETC's longstanding slogan: "code is law".

ETC kept Proof of Work mining when Ethereum moved to Proof of Stake in September 2022 — and inherited a significant share of former Ethereum miners overnight. It uses Etchash, a modified version of the original Ethash, with ~13-second blocks and a fixed monetary policy that reduces emissions roughly every 5 million blocks (the so-called "fifthening" — a 20% cut, not a halving).

What drives the Ethereum Classic price

The structural forces behind ETC's price moves — without forecasting where it goes next.

PoW miner refuge

When Ethereum switched to Proof of Stake in September 2022, ETC absorbed a significant share of the former ETH GPU mining base — its hashrate roughly doubled overnight. ETC's price floor is meaningfully tied to that miner economics: if mining ETC stops being profitable, hashrate (and security) bleeds out.

Immutability narrative

ETC's entire identity rests on the principle that the chain should not be rewound — even when something painful happens. That's a real differentiator from Ethereum, but its commercial value is limited unless application developers actively choose ETC over ETH for that reason. Most don't.

The fifthening

ETC's monetary policy reduces emission by 20% every 5 million blocks (roughly every 2 years). Each "fifthening" tightens new supply, but unlike Bitcoin halvings the cuts are smaller and more frequent, so they don't compress into the same single-event narrative cycles.

Ethereum Classic FAQ

What is the current price of Ethereum Classic?
Ethereum Classic is trading at $8.41 per ETC, with a market cap of $1.33B. Prices on this page refresh every 5 minutes.
How do I buy Ethereum Classic?
You can buy Ethereum Classic (ETC) on most major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Kraken. Sign up, complete identity verification, deposit funds via bank transfer or card, then place a market or limit order for ETC. The "Where to Buy" section above lists exchanges with active welcome offers.
Is Ethereum Classic a good investment in 2026?
Ethereum Classic carries the same volatility risk as all cryptocurrencies — prices can swing sharply in either direction. Whether ETC fits your portfolio depends on your risk tolerance, time horizon, and how much you're willing to lose. This page is informational; nothing here is financial advice. Always do your own research and consider speaking to a licensed advisor.
How is the Ethereum Classic price determined?
Ethereum Classic's price is set by supply and demand across hundreds of exchanges worldwide. The figure shown on this page is a volume-weighted average across major trading venues. Individual exchanges may show slightly different ETC/USD rates depending on their order books.
What is the maximum supply of ETC?
Ethereum Classic has a hard-capped maximum supply of 210.7M ETC. Once that ceiling is reached, no new coins will ever be created — block rewards for miners simply end and they will rely on transaction fees alone.
Can I mine Ethereum Classic at home?
Ethereum Classic uses Proof of Work consensus, so yes — but profitability depends on hardware efficiency and your electricity cost. The "Mine Ethereum Classic" section above ranks the most profitable miners right now. Home mining only makes sense at low electricity rates (typically under $0.10/kWh) with current-generation ASIC hardware.
